At the reverse is a small sticker: O. Kokoschka Villeneuve Vaud/Suisse.

The Autograph comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. 14,7 x 10,4 cm, good condition.

Oskar Kokoschka (1886 – 21980) was an Austrian artist, poet and playwright best known for his intense expressionistic portraits and landscapes. Kokoschka had a passionate, often stormy affair with Alma Mahler. It began in 1912, shortly after the death of her four-year-old daughter Maria Mahler and her affair with Walter Gropius. After several years together, Alma rejected him, explaining that she was afraid of being too overcome with passion. Later then, deemed a degenerate by the Nazis, Kokoschka fled Austria in 1934 for Prague.

Kokoschka became a British citizen in 1946 and only in 1978 would regain Austrian citizenship. He traveled briefly to the United States in 1947 before settling in Switzerland, where he lived the rest of his life. He died in Montreux on 22 February 1980.

Nicholas II (Russian: Николай II, Николай Александрович Романов, tr. His official short title was by the Grace of God, Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias.

Like other Russian Emperors he is commonly known by the monarchical title Tsar (though Russia formally ended the Tsardom in 1721). He is known as Saint Nicholas the Passion-Bearer by the Russian Orthodox Church and has been referred to as Saint Nicholas the Martyr. Nicholas II abdicated following the February Revolution of 1917 during which he and his family were imprisoned first in the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoye Selo, then later in the Governor's Mansion in Tobolsk, and finally at the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg.

In the spring of 1918, Nicholas was handed over to the local Ural Soviet by commissar Vasily Yakovlev who was given a written receipt. Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna, his son, Alexei Nikolaevich, his four daughters, Olga Nikolaevna, Tatiana Nikolaevna, Maria Nikolaevna and Anastasia Nikolaevna, the family's medical doctor, Evgeny Botkin, the Emperor's footman, Alexei Trupp, the Empress' maidservant, Anna Demidova, and the family's cook, Ivan Kharitonov, were executed in the same room by the Bolsheviks on the night of 16/17 July 1918.
